Free Printable Halloween Scavenger Hunt Materials
As with all games and activities like this with kids, make sure to place all of the clues in appropriate places and supervise children as they do the hunt.
One of the great things about scavenger hunts is that they are often very easy to set up. Coming up with the riddles and flow of the game is what takes time. With this free printable Halloween Scavenger Hunt this work is done for you and you can simply print, set up and play!
There are five pages of clues. Each page includes two clues. Cut each page in half so that each clue is on its own page.
The first clue can be set anywhere and each of the clues are numbered. On the bottom corner of each page it also tells where the clue needs be hidden/set – making set up super easy!
You can hide the clue in each location or place it so that it is in plain view for players to find. Hiding it is a great option for older children, groups or simply if you want the game to run longer.
Free Printable Halloween Scavenger Hunt Clue #1
The first clue can be set anywhere for players to find. I set it with a Halloween decoration and set the decoration where I knew the kids would notice it quickly.
The clue reads:
After reading the riddle, players have to figure out where the clue is suggesting for them to look for their next clue. In this riddle, players are directed to go to a bedroom closet.
It’s okay if you have several bedroom closets for players to check. If they check a closet that doesn’t have a clue, then they will search another closet after until they find the next page. You can tell them which closet to check, or let them hunt.
Halloween Scavenger Hunt Clue #2
You can place the second clue in the closet on the floor, or even taped to the wall. I folded the clue and placed it on a hanger so my kids had to search in order to find it.
The second clue says:
Players will race to the kitchen table to search for their next clue.
Free Scavenger Hunt Clue #3
Once players get to the kitchen table, they will search for their next clue. It can be under a plate, table cloth or even on a chair at the table.
Once they find it, they will have their fourth clue. The clue leads them to a television.
Free Printable Halloween Scavenger Hunt Clue #4
As with all of the clues, make sure to place them in a safe place for all of the kids playing. Place this clue near a television.
The fourth clue tells children to check where food is stored. Quickly players run to the fridge.
Halloween Activity for Kids #5
The fridge holds clue #5. You can hide it in a container in the fridge or leave it in plain sight once the fridge is opened.
The clue tells player, “In the bathroom sink is where you need to start inspecting”. Clues like this one offer several possibilities for where the children need to look to find their next clue. Off to check the sinks until the clue is found!
Free Printable Halloween Scavenger Hunt Clue #6
You can place the clue in any bathroom sink in your house. With clues like this, in the past, I have placed the paper in the sink, taped it to the sink, and hidden in in a cupboard below the sink. It’s up to you how challenging you want it to be for players to find the clue.
For the sixth clue, it leads players to “where you put your feet”. Players run to where their shoes are stored.
Halloween Game for Kids Clue #7
The clue can be curled up and hidden inside a pair of shoes, or left in plain sight like my example below.
The seventh clue leads players to check their favorite book.
Free Printable Halloween Scavenger Hunt #8
I hid the next clue among all of our Halloween books, but if your child has a favorite book make sure to place the clue with that book. You can set the books out and place the clue with the books or even hide it inside the pages.
Clue number eight says: “In the laundry basket, your next hint finds room”. Off to check the laundry basket!
Halloween Activity for Kids Clue #9
The final clue is hidden among the laundry in the basket. This is the final riddle for players to solve.
This final clue suggests for players to check where jackets hang. Race to check the closet and more specifically where coats and jackets are hung up.
Free Printable Halloween Scavenger Hunt Certificate
Once players find their way to the coats, the final competition certificate is placed inside a jacket, such as a pocket or sleeve.
There are a few things different about this final page. First, please note that it does not tell you in the bottom corner where to hide the clue. I did not add it to the page because it is intended as a certificate for players to hang onto. So the word “jacket” doesn’t appear on the bottom.
The other thing different about this page is that the words on it are not a riddle and do not lead players anywhere. It is the final certificate. However, you can either place a small treat with the certificate or tell player where you’ve set their prize.
The closet also works well as a place to set a prize. When players check the closet for the jacket, you can have the prize and certificate set up inside for them to find when they open the door.
With large groups you can print as many copies of the certificate you need. In the free printable there is a page with two copies of the certificate so you can print this page as many times as needed.
Halloween Activity Extension Ideas
You can have a lot of fun with the final prize. It doesn’t have to be candy either. It can be a certificate for something special, a movie night at home or even be something like the materials needed for a science experiment like I did with my kids upon completing the hunt. Check out an Exploding Pumpkin Activity.
If you do give candy as part of the prize, or have a lot of candy around the house after trick or treating, this Halloween Math Candy activity has Free Printables and makes learning fun at Halloween!
