Sometimes I am really organized and buy specific materials for a craft idea that I want to tryout with my kids. Other times, we use what we have on hand. Often, our spontaneous crafts turn out to be some of our favourites. With Christmas around the corner, and a bit of snow on the ground, making a snowmen was on my kids minds. This snowman craft idea is simple and turns out so beautifully. I love the fact that it is 3 dimensional because it makes a beautiful decoration.
We started with 2 small balloons. You can make your snowman any size you like, but we kept it small because it’s easier for young kids. We then covered our balloon in white glue and then dipped our string into the glue to make sure that it was fully covered. We made sure to wrap the string all around our balloon and in many directions to help make it more secure.
Once it was fully dry, we painted the string white. Our string was white to begin with, but the paint gives it a much cleaner look. On top of the wet paint, we sprinkled some silver sparkles.
While it was drying, we created all of our pieces to put onto our snowman. Once everything was completely dry, I popped the balloon inside. I secured the two balls together with hot glue and a pipecleaner. I then added arms with mittens, buttons and his face. For his hat, I used black cardstock paper and attached it with hot glue.
I am thrilled with how our snowman looks. I love when our craft ideas turn out this well!
