I love Easter! I love the hunts, family time and all of the excitement. But as my kids get a bit older, I wanted to add something to our celebrations. This year we are doing this free Easter scavenger hunt for kids. It adds a little bit of a challenge for older kids. It’s still a hunt, but with a lot more to find!
As kids get older Easter treats tend to change. This year my kids received one bigger gift. This was something special that they had been asking for. With this hunt, kids have to find 50 or 100 small ducks around the house before receiving their prize/gift.
The Easter bunny still left lots of eggs with small treats and candy inside, but you can choose what your Easter morning looks like. A free copy of the note from the Easter bunny is included, because tradition is important even for older kids.
Grab a copy of the note/riddle and a bunch of mini ducks. If you don’t want want to purchase the ducks, there is a copy of 100 duck images included that you can cut out and hide in place of mini ducks. A link to the ducks is included throughout this activity description.

Materials Needed
The activity is fairly simple to set up. Everything you need is included in the free printable, or you can use mini ducks. There are two printable poems available to print. One of the pages directs players to find 100 ducks, the other kids will only have to find 50. It’s up to you which one you want to use, both are included in the file.

The basic idea of the activity is to hide the ducks all around your house, for kids to find. Once they find each duck they can place it onto the riddle page, or they can color in a square for each duck found.
It will play very much like an Easter egg hunt, but there are lots of ducks and they are quite small. If you want to add another popular game to your celebrations, grab a copy of the Best Easter Escape Room Game for Kids that can be played indoors or outside and is filled with themed puzzles and hands-on activities.
Start by cutting out each of the ducks. Make sure you print enough for each child doing the hunt. If your kids are younger and you want to add this activity for kids to do together, just print one of the riddles and kids can work together to find all of the ducks.

Setting Up Your Scavenger Hunt
You can choose how challenging you want to make this Easter scavenger hunt. If you have older kids, you can hide them in really challenging places. Places like closed cabinets or inside drawers. You could even tape the ducks under tables or chairs. This will extend the hunt time, but it can also lead to frustration if some ducks seem impossible to find. Be mindful of your group.

Place the ducks around the house in different locations. I used all 100 ducks so many I lined up and made them easy to find.

Other ducks I placed with items that they blended in with the color. This made them harder to find, but not impossible.

If you want to help make it a bit easier to find the ducks, and avoid having a few missing at the end that you can’t find, you can place 10 ducks in each room of the house or specify to kids how many ducks they are looking for in each room. This way when they have found the designated number they can move on. It also helps narrow down where to look at the end for the final few ducks.
Alternatively, if you think kids may get frustrated in finding all of their ducks, you can offer for them to earn a duck or two. For example, 10 jumping jacks can earn a duck or solve a mini puzzle. Make sure to keep it fun for kids.
If your kids love the challenge, you can use a stopwatch and time them. Compare each years time!

Once children have found all of their ducks, have them count, or line them all up on the chart. You may need to line them you beside the chart if you hid all 100 ducks. Once you have confirmed that kids have found all of the ducks, kids can receive their prize.
Adding this free Easter scavenger hunt to your celebrations is a fun way to add something new and exciting to your day. Personally I love using it with my kids as they get older because it’s a fun challenge for them. They also loved the mini ducks that they then got to keep.

If you’re a teacher or educator this is also a fun activity to try in a classroom or school setting. Since there are so many ducks, it’s easy for everyone to find at least one and contribute to the game.
