Free Beach Scavenger Hunt for Kids

What’s better than a day at the beach? The sun shining, waves crashing and a full day of fun! Make your time at the beach even more exciting and full of adventure with this Free Beach Scavenger Hunt for Kids. There is so much to see and do at the beach and a scavenger hunt is a great way to make the most of the experience.

I introduced my kindergarten children to scavenger hunts a few years ago and they loved them! I’ve been incorporating as many as I can into my program because they were such a hit. They’re also a great learning opportunity as children match words and pictures to things around them.

Scavenger hunts are also a great way to get kids up and moving and make learning fun. A great twist on this scavenger hunt is to include a small prize, like ice cream, once everything on the list is found.

Before your day at the beach, print a copy of the scavenger hunt for each child that will do the activity. The hunt is included in black and white and in color. The color copy is fun and appealing, but the black and white copy is great to both save ink and give kids something to color once they have completed their hunt.

Since I have used this hunt many times, I have laminated a few copies of the color version. This way I can print it and use it over and over again. If you laminate or put in a plastic pocket, bring along some dry erase markers to check off each item as it is found.

Print and grab some markers or pencils for kids to check as they find each item. Kids can work with a partner, team or on their own. I find pairing young kids with an older child is a great option. Many of the items on the page will be found very quickly, and easily.

Other items may end up taking most of the day. If there are a few items that are not at the beach when you visit, you can always take the scavenger hunt home and search at home for the missing items. Books and television are also an option to find items that otherwise seem impossible.

Summer Activity for Kids

I love this free beach scavenger hunt for kids young and old. It’s a great way to encourage kids to be observant about their surroundings. The hunt is also created with younger children in mind.

When I initially did a hunt, my students loved it, but there were no pictures so they couldn’t do it independently. Now I try to include a picture with the word to help younger children and children learning to read. With the picture kids can often sound out the word and figure it out, which makes finding it a lot easier.

I hope that you enjoy this free beach scavenger hunt as much as my family did. It creates a great memory for an already special adventure.
