There is always lots to do while camping. From swimming and campfires, there’s lots to enjoy and explore with kids. Having a printable activity that you can use anytime is also a great idea. This scavenger hunt is perfect for small groups or to do as a family. Print as many copies as you need and start searching.

Having lots of simple, interactive activities ready to go when you’re camping with kids is important. Beyond this scavenger hunt, one of my family’s favorite activities we’ve done while camping is a camping escape room game. Print the puzzles and place them in specific spots around your campsite – Places, and items that you already have with you as you set up camp, such a cooler and sleeping area. It’s a great challenge for families or groups and it’s all printable.

Free Camping Scavenger Hunt Printable

One of the best things about this outdoor scavenger hunt is the fact that there is no prep required to set it up. Simply print as many copies as you need and give them to children to start the hunt.

If you have young kids or a group of mixed ages, you can have kids work in pairs or as a big group. They can challenge each other to see who finds everything first or work together as a team to complete the list.

Most of the items can be found right at your campsite, however, some of the items will take players beyond their campsite. Make sure to set some boundaries for kids to complete the list to keep everyone safe. Some of the items may even require players to wait until the evening to finish all of the items, such as finding stars and a campfire.

Have children search and check off each item as they find them. If you want to add an extra element to the game, require players to take a photo of each item when they find it. It’s a great way to get some extra photos from your adventure and camping trip.

Outdoor Scavenger Hunt

When I used scavenger hunts in my classroom, my students always loved using them, but young children struggled when the hunts only included words. Therefore, I added a picture image for each of the words to help young children.

The word and picture combination makes the scavenger hunt a great choice for kids of all ages and helps new readers be successful and capable of doing the hunt more independently.

Printable Outdoor Activity

If you are expecting some rain or bad weather for your trip, or want to use the scavenger hunt multiple times, a great option is to laminate the scavenger hunts. When laminated you don’t have to worry about the pages being destroyed and they will last for years.

The file with the camping scavenger hunt includes a copy with a color image and the same page with black and white pictures. The color page is engaging and bright on its own. The black and white page is great to use with kids to color once they finish. It’s an easy way to extend the activity time.

Another fun addition to the game is to include a small prize, or treat for players to win when they finish the scavenger hunt. I often use a smores kit which we planned to use while camping anyways.
