The math talks align with the New 2026 Ontario Kindergarten Math Curriculum. The resource even includes a chart listing all of the new expectations as well as which expectations are targeted in each math talk. By the end of the year you’ll be confident that all expectations have been taught.
Math talks are a great way to build number sense, mathematical thinking, communication and problem solving skills in young learners. A basic math talk involves students observing an image, thinking about what they notice and then sharing their ideas. Most math talks should take between 5 and 15 minutes.
This resource includes 20 math talks. Use one slide each day, in sequence. Project the Google Slide onto a SmartBoard each day for a whole group activity or print the smaller printable cards. Let students’ ideas and answers guide your math talk.

An important feature of these math talks are the colorful, engaging photos each day of familiar math tools and pictures that children recognize and use. Each page includes a clean, uncluttered design that allows children to focus on the math. There are also two intentional teacher prompts to guide the lesson and encourage discussion.
Each month builds on the previous month. This set of math talks is for September. Start at the beginning of the year by introducing concepts, math tools and the structure of how math talks will run in your room.
I created this resource to use in my own kindergarten classroom. After using a few math talks in my classroom I realized how valuable they were and how much learning happened during these lessons. I wanted a daily resource that was ready to use with no prep required, and I needed to be confident that each day I had a lesson that was meaningful, curriculum based and engaging. Now that I’ve created it, I’m excited to share it with you.
