With Thanksgiving just a few weeks away, I’m collecting and creating as many themed activities for my classroom and my own kids at home. In the last few years, I’ve started doing more and more scavenger hunts with my students. They always enjoy doing them and request more. Today I’m sharing a Free Thanksgiving Scavenger Hunt.
Kids love scavenger hunts because they’re fun and they are played by walking around and exploring an area. They love this movement and learning that happens beyond the classroom walls. Scavenger hunts are interactive and they are great for encouraging attention to detail and working as a team.
Hunts like this are also a great way to keep kids engaged during the excitement of the holiday. They love looking for important items that represent the holiday. As a teacher, I always love the excitement children show when they find each item and I love that there is no prep required to set up the scavenger hunt.

I find activities like this are a great option for a screen-free activity that kids enjoy. Team kids up with a partner or group to encourage team work and communication skills.

Thanksgiving Activity for Kids
One of the great things about this scavenger hunt is that you don’t need any special materials to set it up and complete the hunt. Simply print the page for each child and provide a pencil or marker for kids to check off each item as they find it.
The scavenger hunt is included in color and black and white. Print whichever copy is best for you. The color copy is great because it is eye catching and exciting, but the black and white copy is great for kids to color after completing the scavenger hunt.

Providing each child with a copy of the hunt is a great idea, but you can also choose to laminate a few copies and give kids a dry erase marker. This way groups of kids can do the hunt, wipe off their checkmarks and the page can be used again and again.
Generally with scavenger hunts, you can search around and find each of the items on the list. However, if you know there is an item that kids are going to have a lot of trouble finding, you can always print a copy of the image and post it around the classroom or area that you’re doing the hunt.

When doing the hunt, give kids the option to find each of the images anywhere! They may be in books, a movie, or even art on the walls. The item that kids find does not have to be identical to the one on the page.
