Each of the escape rooms below include free printable puzzles. Some of these puzzles compliment hands-on puzzles to create the game, in others the free puzzles make up the whole game and no other materials are needed.
Take time to look through the collection to find an escape room, or two, that you think is the right fit for your group. These games can be done by individuals, groups or families.
Escape room games are a great way to make learning fun and engaging. Many of the puzzles in escape rooms require some math, problem solving and other critical thinking skills to solve. So get a free escape room ready to try and turn any space into a room filled with adventure and mystery!

Setting Up Your Escape Room
Once you choose the escape room you want to prepare, make sure to print the pages based on the instructions included in the resources, or on the blog post. Once printed prepare the pages by cutting and/or hiding them in each location.
Some of the escape rooms below include printable instructions, however, for most of them the instructions are explained in the blog post description.
To add to the experience, adding themed decorations and music can keep engagement high. You can also choose to set a time limit. Usually an hour works well for the games. However, if you have young or inexperienced players, giving them as long as they need to work their way through the game is ideal.
With each game, I try to include a small prize or treat in the final location. You don’t have to include anything, but it can make the game even more memorable. With the escape rooms, most also include a free escape room completion certificate.
Escape Room for Young Kids
If you’re looking for a simple escape room to introduce escape rooms to young players, this printable escape room is the place to start. The puzzles are simple and intended for preschool and kindergarten aged children.
It’s a great way for them to experience escape room games without the frustration of the puzzles being too challenging for them.
Mystery Manor Puzzle Game
Once you’ve tried a few escape rooms, this game, Escape From Mystery Manor, is a great game for groups and slightly older kids. The theme isn’t scary, but it has a more spooky vibe than the other games.
This printable escape room includes everything you need with the printable puzzles. No additional materials are required, beyond a pair of scissors to prepare some of the puzzles and a pencil to help players solve the puzzles.
Medieval Mystery Escape Room Game
The images in this escape room create a great Medieval Mystery. Children will love working their way through the clues to find their way to the end. There are lots of math and coding type puzzles and they can be played around the house.
This escape room is slightly different than some games in that as each puzzle is solved, players are directed to a different place in your home. Players will move about as they play.

This is Hands-On Teaching Ideas original, and very popular, free printable escape room game. All of the puzzles and materials you need are included in the printable. You can print it and set it up around your house in minutes.
If it’s a rainy day or you’re simply looking for a screen free activity for kids, this escape room kit is always a favorite!
Make Your Own Escape Room
This is another escape room that mixes printable puzzles and hands-on clues. The clues that you make are fairly simple and use materials from around the house, like play dough, balloons and popsicle sticks. You can even use tea bags to create a worn, aged look on the puzzles.
Free Escape Rooms at Home
Create an escape room in a bedroom at home. Hide all of the puzzles around the room for children to find and solve. This escape room includes lots of free printable puzzles, but also involves some hands-on materials.
This was the first escape room game that I used a recordable sound button and it was instantly the favorite clue! If you choose to purchase a few unique puzzles, a recordable button is a great choice!
Kids Escape Room
If you’re looking for an escape room that includes lots of hands-on puzzles, this game requires a mix of printable puzzles and physical clues. Many of the puzzles work well with a group to work through and solve. These hands-on clues require a few more complicated materials, but it makes it feel more like a formal escape room.
Critical thinking and thinking outside of the box is required to be successful with this game.
Free Escape Rooms for Kids – Themed
The next group of free escape rooms for kids are all themed for a specific occasion. You could use them any time of year to practice your escape room skills, but they were created with a certain holiday in mind.
For many of the games, they are a great way to keep kids entertained at family events as children are busy solving the puzzles and finding their way to the end of the game.
