Everyone loves a great scavenger hunt. They’re engaging, and make learning fun. This holiday season make sure to grab this Free Christmas Scavenger Hunt. When I did this activity with my young students they were so excited to see all of the Christmas pictures of things they love. I had planned to print in color, but settled on black and white to save ink. This ended up being a great alternative. When my students were done with the hunt, they loved coloring all of the pictures.

Children can find the items in any order and the item can be any version of the image. For example, they can find a picture in a book or even in a movie. Get ready for the excitement for when each of the items are found.

Free Christmas Scavenger Hunt

All you need in order to do the hunt is one of the printable checklists and a marker or pencil. The freebie is provided in color and black and white. Print either copy that works best for you.

I have done this hunt with large groups and with individual children. If you plan to use the scavenger hunt several times, a great option is to laminate the page and use dry erase markers. When children finish the hunt, they can eraser their checkmarks and you can reuse the page over and over.

Once you have a copy of the hunt for the children, you’re ready to begin.

A few ideas where to search for the items on the scavenger hunt are listed below:

• After decorating, search around your home for the twelve Christmas items. You can get creative and kids can look in books or on television for any items you don’t have at home.
• Go on a walk through the school to search and find the items. Check the halls for art that has the items or classroom decorations.
• Pack everyone into the car and go on a drive. Look around your neighborhood at your decorations and items in the area. Add some hot chocolate to your adventure!

Holiday Activity for Kids

Another great option to try with the hunt is to use it as a family activity or group work activity. Send small groups, or families to search for the items. They can work together to find all of the items by sharing a page, or give everyone their own page and make sure everyone finds everything.

It’s always fun to add a small prize or gift at the end. It can be anything from a candy cane to a note for a special holiday movie to watch together. Enjoy the hunt and even though it’s a simple checklist the possibilities are endless for the fun you turn it into.

Another fun way to do the hunt is to require players to take a picture of each of the items with they find them. Then they’re left with fun memories of the hunt on their phones as well!
