Crafts for Kids

Crafts for Kids

Looking for some easy summer crafts for kids?  My kids loved creating these grass heads.  They are really easy to make and I love the fact that it was a craft that we keep looking at and taking care of for weeks after we made it.  Plus the grass grows really fast and looks super cool! We always have a garden in the summer.  We don’t usually end up with much growing, but usually something pops up.  This was a fun twist on watching plants grow.  Just add the grass seeds to the bottom of the nylon and then fill...

Kids Birthday Party Ideas

Kids Birthday Party Ideas

I did this at home for my daughter before she started kindergarten.  However, if you need kids birthday party ideas, it would work really well.  With the help of a friend, we planned a small celebration for a group of girls about to start kindergarten.  We set up a tent in our living room and covered it with bed sheets at the sides to create walls.   The mom’s of the girls brought their daughter’s collection of dresses, jewelry and shoes and the girl’s dressed up for their party.  We made necklaces, decorated cupcakes and made them a special lunch.  It was...

Table Manners

Table Manners

Sometimes the best adventures are ones that I didn’t plan for at all.  We had read a book about manners and later that day I see some little ones setting a ‘table’ for their stuffed animals and role playing how they need to behave to show proper table manners.  I guess they were listening! One of the things that I really loved about this was that the kids used materials from around the room to create their table.  They did not have chairs or a table so they made them out of Connex straws.  Having these materials available to them...

Lady Bug Rock

Lady Bug Rock

I hope they brought good luck!  These little lady bug rock critters were so much fun to make!  Although I ended up with over 100 ladybugs, I am convinced each child could have quickly found the one that they made because they were all a little bit different.  Children went outside to collect a smooth stone that they wanted to use (I brought in several as back up).  If you have ever walked with a child and collected rocks, then you know how special a rock can be!    We did a coat of white paint and then a layer of red.  Everyone painted...

When I teach health, the idea of emotions always comes up.  I created these worry stones with all of the kindergarten students that I teach on prep.  Students choose 2-3 different colours of oven baked clay and they slightly mixed them together. They rolled it into a ball and then lightly pressed their fingerprint onto the clay.  I...

Kids Play – Story Play

Kids Play – Story Play

Since I create a lot of story plays, I have a lot of the materials at my house.  Therefore my kids have access to these materials.  So when I see my kids independently creating story plays my heart melts.  I love using natural objects for kids play with, especially for story plays.  Over time I have collected various sheets of fabric that children always enjoy playing with and creating their setting.  After reading a story, my daughter collected various items from around the house and created her own story play, loosely based on the book.   She played for hours retelling...
