I love being outside and my kids love art. We end up creating a lot of outdoor art. On a beautiful day, children collected materials as we walked around the yard. They were challenged to create a small house or structure for a small critter.
They then created a small house using just the materials they collected, which turned into a whole village. It was quite the creation. I love the idea of creating outdoor art using only the materials around them. They were so proud of what they made. I was really impressed by the variety of materials that students found, and the colours!
To extend this, I would give students small toys (small people, cars) and allow them to play in their ‘community’.
